Initially, the plan was just to make a simple discord bot that interacted directly with a DB to handle all their needs. However, as I started to build it out I realised that inputing extended amounts of data into a discord bot can be difficult and time consuming. I decided from then that I was not only going to build a public landing page for the website, but also include full authentication and authorisation and an admin dashboard. This allowed staff to use simple, easy to read forms instead of long inline text inputs in the discord chat box.
This frontend both replicated to the database for the discord bot to pick up in some cases on demand and in other cases via a cron job, and also used the discord API itself to instantly update some embeds where their updates were needed instantly.
